Cybercrime magazine indicated that about 20% of women are part of cybersecurity. The figure was obtained from a report by Cybersecurity Ventures with projections for 2020. The article was the conclusion of multiple expert analyzes, based on interviews and surveys, who came to define that women represented a little more than 1/5 of the professionals. Another study by (ISC) 2 based on an online survey indicates that it would be about 24 %.
Despite the imprecision of the figures, the estimate continues to show an underrepresentation of the female gender despite the notable increase in the employment of women compared to 11% in 2013.
The presence of women also increases in management and leadership positions in their respective organizations, as a consequence of a better professional preparation than men. According to (iSC)2, 44% of men have postgraduate degrees compared to 52% of women.
The presence of women is essential in cybersecurity. Not only are they going to renew the field and end the gender disparity, they are also called upon to fill many vacant jobs in cybersecurity. According to the Cybersecurity Guide the Info Sec institute estimates that the shortage of professionals in Cybersecurity is estimated at 3, 5 million globally by this year 2021.
Encouraging women to be part of cybersecurity is an effort that is not only in the hands of governments and universities, it largely depends on the private sector.
